A recent downtown mural has officially been completed! Marci Berkhimer, local artist from Roan Mountain, Tennessee, and Downtown Johnson City business co-owner, submitted her application and proposal for the Johnson City Development Authority’s RFQ for a Wagon Wheel themed mural in the recently updated Downtown Square Breezeway. With many local and talented applicants, Marci’s piece was selected to begin early this fall.
This mural is hoped to be a great attraction for Downtown Johnson City visitors and residents. There is no denying the love around the globe for the Old Crow Medicine Show’s single, Wagon Wheel. When visitors and residents alike head over for a photo session in front of this new mural located at 216 E. Main Street in Downtown Johnson City, we hope the extra foot-traffic in downtown will encourage more shopping, dining and exploring in our district.
When taking a photo with this mural, creativity is encouraged! Put your hand on the wheel, look back, smile, and wave at the camera as you are “headed to Johnson City, Tennessee”.
Ketch Secor, Co-Writer of Wagon Wheel, and Lead-Singer of Old Crow Medicine Show reached out to the Johnson City Development Authority expressing his excitement and support for this proposed mural. Showing his love for Johnson City, Northeast Tennessee, and the new downtown mural, Ketch Secor sends the following video to the Johnson City Development Authority for virtual support.
