NASHVILLE, TN -- April 25, 2019 -- The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development recently announced all 16 Tennessee Welcome Centers are now equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
An automated external defibrillator is a portable device that diagnoses and treats cardiac issues through defibrillation.
More than 15 million visitors stop at a Tennessee Welcome Center, making the installation of AEDs necessary.
The installation of AEDs is an example of the technological features Tennessee Welcome Centers have implemented, including green certification at 14 welcome centers with energy efficient lighting, insulation and weather stripping, rain barrels for landscaping use, recycling areas, continued education for welcome center staff, free Wi-Fi and music by Tennessee legends played outside and in the lobby areas of centers.
Tourism is one of Tennessee’s largest industries, generating $20.7 billion in economic impact, more than $1.8 billion in state and local sales tax revenue and more than 184,300 tourism-related jobs.
