TDTD recently commissioned Tourism Economics, a leader in travel analysis, to produce a custom report for international visitation to Tennessee using many data sources, including Visa credit card data for 2017. This report breaks down visitation and spending from the state’s Top 15 countries of origin. It also reveals visitation by Tennessee’s nine sub-regions.
Tennessee was named the fastest growing state in the U.S. for international travel in 2017 by Tourism Economics. The state reached record highs with 767,400 international visits and 450,300 overseas visits. International visits have grown 19.8% since 2012 and overseas visits have grown 47.5% since 2012. Total international spending grew 38.7% since 2012, coming in at $934 million in 2017 with overseas spending ($792 million in 2017) growing 38.1% since 2012.
Additionally, Canada and the United Kingdom account for approximately 25% of all spending and Tennessee is seeing strong travel growth from emerging markets like China and India.
TDTD works with in-market representatives from destination marketing companies to support, create and facilitate marketing, PR and sales initiatives in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, France, Benelux, Brazil, China, Japan, and Italy.
