The I-40 Haywood County Solar Farm and Welcome Center is now open to the public. Guests can tour the center and The University of Tennessee’s interactive SPECTRUM solar educational exhibit to see how solar energy is harvested and how Tennessee is taking the lead in renewable energy development.
The new welcome center and solar farm, owned and operated by the University of Tennessee, houses a Tennessee Welcome Center with reception area, tourism displays, restrooms and staff spaces, an Information Center featuring an interactive renewable energy exhibit, an attached vending structure and open-air covered picnic terrace.
The colorful LED-lit energy futuristic design for the exhibit is visible from the highway. The focus of the center, a glass enclosed information space, offers an almost 360-degree view of the 21,000 photovoltaic panels, spread across 25 acres and providing 5 megawatts of electricity.
Please note: TDTD, TDOT, the University of Tennessee and Haywood County dignitaries will host an official ribbon cutting in celebration of the I-40 Haywood County Solar Farm 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at mile marker 44 west bound, I-40 West Haywood County, Stanton, Tennessee 38069. To attend, RSVP here.
