After the success of the state’s #servingTN campaign launched earlier this year, the state decided to continue the campaign through “TeamTN is #servingTN” with the goal of identifying state employees who are #servingTN in an unexpected, inspiring or exemplary way.
TDTD nominated Fay Hicks, Tennessee Information Specialist, because of her outstanding customer service, positive attitude and exemplary work being the voice of the department to visitors.
Hicks has spent hours on the phone talking with potential travelers to Tennessee. One time, she spent over an hour and a half helping a couple who were lost in the Great Smoky Mountains. She could hear the panic in their voices and used a map to help pinpoint where they were and stayed on the phone until she got them out. Through the winter months, she had several calls from a Michigan couple who wanted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Nashville. During their visit, they stopped by TDTD offices to bring her a bottle of wine from Michigan.
“It’s about public service and being able to treat other people how you want to be treated,” said Fay Hicks, Tennessee Information Specialist. “I spent 23 years #servingTN, 16 years with tourism. I’m in love with life. I like to surround myself with positive and happy people. If you dwell on the past, you miss out on the present.”
Gov. Bill Haslam presented Fay Hicks with a “Day of Recognition” certificate for her outstanding service to the State of Tennessee, including helping visitors experience the state’s legendary hospitality and make lifelong memories.
