Ashley Howell, Executive Director, Tennessee State Museum

HowellAshley Howell joined the Tennessee State Museum as Executive Director in April 2017 to lead the institution in its transition to a new museum on the Bicentennial Mall in the fall of 2018. Since that time, she has guided the Museum toward its reaccreditation with the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).
 
Howell has more than twenty-five years of experience in public and non-profit management. Previously, she served as the Deputy Director of the Frist Art Museum in Nashville. She currently serves as a Peer Reviewer for AAM and was named as a Woman of Influence by the Nashville Business Journal in 2020.
 
Howell holds a B.A. in Art History and an M.S. in Communications from the University of Tennessee.  Additionally, she holds an M.B.A. from Boston University Questrom School of Business and a Certificate in Museum Studies from BU’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
